If you are looking for a compact and convenient means of self-defense, you may have come across so-called stungun-lipsticks in online stores. These tiny devices the size of a regular lipstick and attractive colors may seem like the perfect solution, but do not rush to buy them after seeing the promices of high performance and low price. In this article, we will explain why such miniature stunguns are ineffective.

ELECTROSHOCK DEVICES: THE PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

Electroshock devices act by creating powerful electrical discharges that, upon contact with the body, immobilize the attacker. This requires high voltage, up to 90,000 volts for civilian stungun models and about 120,000 volts for police riot gear. The power of the electric shock device is influenced by the characteristics of the battery, the transformer, and the quality of electronic control parts.

The buyers' request for compact self-defense equipment is well known to manufacturers of electroshock weapons. There are no miniature certified Class 1 stunguns on the market of self-defense equipment, not because they do not want to be produced, but because it is impossible to fit high-quality and powerful parts into the parameters of 9*2 cm. Chinese mini stunguns produce a voltage of only 2000-3000 volts, which is absolutely not enough to stop the enemy. The effectiveness of an electroshock device is also directly affected by the distance between its electrodes – therefore, in GOST for stunguns there is a limit of no more than 40 mm between the working electrodes. In a small stungun with a diameter of 2 cm, the electrodes will be located too close.

The 1112 Type stungun-lipstick is a toy, a funny trinket that can be shown to friends. They are comparable to the chewing gum tasers that children used to prank each other with.

THE PROBLEM OF CHEAP STUNGUNS FOR SELF-DEFENSE

The buyer can find a very cheap option for almost any product: from kitchen appliances to shoes or clothes. Usually such things do not last long, do not meet expectations and do not match the description. But if a cheap mixer breaks or cheap shoes break, then this will not affect your life, and a broken self-defense tool can become a serious problem.

Let's analyze the technical characteristics of the stungun-lipstick:

1) The discharge voltage is 7,000,000 Volts, which is ten times more than allowed by law for civilian ESCs. According to GOST R 50940-96 "Electroshock devices", modern civilian stunguns for self-defense operate in the range from 20,000 to 90,000 volts. This is enough to create a strong electrical pulse capable of immobilizing a person, but it does not pose a mortal danger if used correctly. It is impossible to measure the discharge voltage of 7,000,000 if measurements are carried out in accordance with GOST. No "modern possibilities of technological progress" will help to make an electric shock device of a tiny size that produces voltage of an electric substation.

2) The frequency of sparking is 250 Hz. The video below shows an overview of the taser lipstick. In the video, you can observe the operation of an electric shock discharger. You can hear individual muffled discharges, which means that the frequency of the electric shock arrester is several times lower than 250 Hz.

3) The thickness of penetrated clothing is 25 mm. In fact, the 1112 TYPE stungun-lipstick can penetrate 1-2 mm of clothing. This parameter (the air gap between the electrodes and the object of exposure) is determined equally for any electric shock devices (both Chinese and certified Russian) as half the distance between the control electrodes. In the stungun-lipstick, this distance is no more than 4 mm, which gives a breakdown thickness of 1-2 mm.

4) The time to recover from shock state - 25 minutes. No civilian stungun can disorient a person for such a long time. The use of this device will only cause a state of surprise in the affected object.

5) Has a fuse and a built-in 220 lumens flashlight. A flashlight with such brightness can be quite compact, but its size and cost will surpass the flashlight in this stungun.
