We have created a "pseudo stunguns" section to study the characteristics and effectiveness of cheap stunguns manufactured in China. Since they are available for purchase in online stores and are popular among customers due to the low price and promised effect, Chinese stunguns have become widespread on the Russian market. However, most consumers have no experience with self-defense means and are unable to verify the accuracy of the information provided. As a result, sellers can easily mislead them by exaggerating the characteristics and promising high efficiency, which Chinese stunguns are not able to provide.
HOW EFFECTIVE IS TW-10 STUNGUN WITH SIREN FOR SELF-DEFENSE?
In fact, TW10 is not an electroshock device, the requirements for which are regulated in GOST R 50940-96, does not have a certificate of conformity and has not been tested in biomedical tests. According to the documents, this is a "dog repellent device" or simply an "electrical device", which allows it to be sold without any control. In previous articles, we have already discussed in detail the topic of the illegal sale of such stunguns, as well as the possible consequences of their use for owners of such devices.
Let's analyze the technical characteristics of this stungun. Let's discuss how they correspond to reality and talk about the real effectiveness of this device.
What's wrong with TW-10 stungun? Analysis of its technical characteristics
Characteristics of the device, according to information in online stores:
- Discharge voltage (information in various online stores) - 2,000 - 50,000 kV;
- Frequency - 250 Hz;
- Thickness of penetrated clothing - 32 mm;
- Siren - 120 dB;
- Exposure time - 25 minutes;
- Fuse and built-in flashlight;
- Overall dimensions - 170x58x32 mm;
- Weight - 200 g;
- Warranty - 2 years.
Let`s consider the parameters that raise questions.
Unfortunately, the Chinese "stunguns" available on the Russian market do not meet the stated parameters. The technical specifications of these devices are written by sellers who do not have sufficient knowledge in the field of electroshock weapons, in order to attract a buyer with impressive parameters and sell a low-quality device.
It should be noted that completely different characteristics may be indicated on different websites (for example, voltage from 2000 kV to 50,000 kV, the size of the device may also vary depending on the source). All sites lack information about the type of battery, the power of the device, certification, and even the service life of the device. The manufacturer is also not specified, which is typical for stunguns from China.
Let's analyze the TW-10 technical characteristics by points:
1) Discharge voltage - 2,000 - 50,000 kV according to different sites. It is impossible to obtain a voltage of 2 million volts in such a compact device if measurements are carried out according to GOST R 50940-96 standard. Class 1 electric shock devices have a voltage of up to 90 kV in accordance with GOST for stunguns. It would be impossible to obtain a voltage hundreds of times higher than this value and would not correspond to the parameters allowed by law. The actual voltage of this device does not even meet the requirements of Class 3 as specified in GOST. Sellers of Chinese stunguns seek to attract buyers with impressive characteristics, but in reality these indicators are fiction.
2) Frequency – 250 Hz. In the video, you can see the operation of the electroshock discharger. It is low-frequency: single discharges are heard, they are very rare. Its real frequency is several times lower than the stated one.
3) Thickness of penetrated clothing - 32 mm - is calculated as the distance between the control electrodes (a control discharge passes between them), divided by two. The photo shows that the TW-10 stungun has long control electrodes. The air gap between them seems to be about 8 mm, which means that the thickness of the breakdown of the clothes of this shocker is about 4 mm.
4) Siren - 120 dB. This is an interesting and non-standard feature for a stun gun. Of course, the real volume of the siren (it can be heard in the video) in this device is below 120 dB, but it works and is able to draw attention to the offense. While you can rely on the siren, you should not expect this stungun to be effective for self-defense. It is preferable to purchase a loud siren and a powerful Class 1 electroshock weapon separately.
5) Exposure time - 25 min. Perhaps it was referring to the time of recovery from the state of shock - manufacturers of Chinese stunguns often promise that they are able to neutralize a person for 30-60 minutes. However, this is not true: these devices cannot have such an effect, regardless of how long it is used on the target. And an electric weapon that would have such a characteristic could not be certified, since it would not have passed medical and biological tests. A Russian-made class 1 stunguns stop an aggressive opponent, disorient him, have a pronounced painful effect - but they don`t cauyse the loss of consciousness for half an hour.
By the way, according to GOST for electroshock devices, the maximum permissible single exposure time is 3 seconds.
6) Warranty - 2 years. Since there is no contact with the manufacturer, there is no point in counting on repairs or warranty service. 2 weeks after the purchase, the seller also ceases to be responsible for the device sold. There are responsible stores that return money a year or two after the sale, but you should not rely on this.
Conclusions
If you plan to purchase a stungun for effective self-defense, it is recommended to choose a certified class 1 electroshock device made in Russia by a licensed manufacturer.
Real stun guns can't be very cheap. Chinese shockers can create a loud discharge, but in a really dangerous situation they may not be effective enough against aggressive people or angry dogs.
